AI chatbot DeepSeek that shook Chatgpt and other AI models has been witnessing a crackdown by several governments, including India, US, Australia with South Korea being the most recent one.

1. India: Government Issues Confidentiality Warning

India’s Finance Ministry has directed officials not to use DeepSeek AI or similar tools like ChatGPT on office devices. A government note issued on January 29 cited risks to confidentiality of government data and documents as the reason for the ban.

2. South Korea: Military Blocks DeepSeek Access

South Korea’s defense ministry has officially blocked it from being accessed on its military computers due to potential security concerns.

3. Italy: First Country to Ban

Italy became the first country to completely ban DeepSeek AI in January. The Italian Data Protection Authority (DPA) took action after raising concerns about how the Chinese AI platform handles user data. The app has been removed from app stores in the country.

4. Taiwan: Strict Regulations for Public Sector Use

While Taiwan has not completely banned, it has imposed strict restrictions on its use across all public sector organizations, including government offices, state-owned enterprises, and public schools.

5. Australia: Government Bans It on All Official Devices

Australia has implemented a nationwide ban on this AI for government devices. Home Affairs Secretary Tony Burke stated that a risk analysis determined that the AI posed an unacceptable security risk to the government.

6. United States: Military and Texas Crack Down

The U.S. Navy has restricted it for both work-related and personal use. Additionally, Texas became the first U.S. state to ban the AI, citing concerns over potential data harvesting and infiltration by Chinese entities.
