In a dramatic turn of events, Atishi, Aam Aadmi Party’s rising star, has officially been announced as the next Chief Minister of Delhi, succeeding Arvind Kejriwal. Atishi’s first reaction was filled with emotion as she thanked her “guru” and long-time mentor, Arvind Kejriwal, for entrusting her with such a significant responsibility.
Kejriwal Said, “I Will Only Return With a Certificate of Honesty”
Arvind Kejriwal after declaring his resignation in the light of the bail granted in the Delhi excise policy case stated that he will not be able to return to the CM office unless he receives a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi. The demand for fresh assembly elections in November has also contributed to the political build-up that has happened the capital. There is an era of change due to Kejriwal’s resignation and entry of Atishi as the new CM in a time of political turmoil.
Atishi Said, “Delhi Has Only One CM”
Atishi’s allegiance to Kejriwal is manifested from the statements that she’s making. While she accepted her new responsibility by being emotional saying, in her view, there is only one chief minister in Delhi – Arvind Kejriwal.
She in her response said, “I am glad that Arvind Kejriwal has faith in me but my heart sinks because my elder brother and my guru is resigning today.” This explains the admiration she has with Kejriwal and the emotional weight of the whole situation is there.
BJP Calls Atishi a ‘Puppet CM’
The political opposition, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was quick to criticize Atishi’s appointment. BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari attacked Kejriwal’s move, calling Atishi a “puppet CM” and accusing Kejriwal of maintaining control behind the scenes amidst internal power struggles within the AAP.
According to Bhandari, Kejriwal’s decision reflects his lack of confidence in his party’s leadership. “He has no faith in his team, which is why he picks someone weaker than him as CM. Delhi’s public is being dragged into AAP’s internal chaos, but they will see through it during the elections,” Bhandari warned.
Atishi’s Rise to the Top
However there is fascinating political journey of Atishi. When appointed as a trusted aide of Arvind Kejriwal she has emerged as one leader who can take on the BJP in the absence of Manish Sisodia or Sanjay Singh. As the primary spokesperson of AAP, she had to defend Delhi government’s policies effectively and she did it well, hence holding key portfolios that has placed her strategically in the party.
The fact that Kejriwal chose her to succeed him reflects the deep trust and confidence he has in her leadership abilities. But is her rise merely a part of Kejriwal’s grand political chess game, or is she set to be making her own leadership legacy? Only time will tell.
BJP’s Sharp Criticism
BJP is not holding back its attacks. The party accused Atishi’s family of trying to stop the execution of Afzal Guru, a sensitive issue that could impact public opinion. The BJP claims that AAP treats women leaders as mere puppets and that this move to install Atishi as CM will backfire.
“The attempts of AAP to portray women as dummies will not work Any more The public, especially the people of Delhi will see it The next elections would be of people versus AAP backed by BJP.” said Pradeep Bhandari.
What’s Next for Delhi?
As Atishi becomes a Chief Minister of Delhi, it will be a big showdown in the politics of Delhi. Given that there are new elections ahead and the BJP is increasingly focusing on the AAP leadership, Atishi’s leadership will be under severe pressure. Can she rise up to the occasions or has Kejriwal’s shadow will haunt the reign of her governance?
The people of Delhi are watching closely, and the upcoming elections will reveal whether Atishi can command the respect and support that Kejriwal enjoyed or if BJP’s accusations of her being a ‘puppet’ will sway public opinion.
